UNICEF Tap Project – Water Good Idea!
Love this idea. Thanks DD for sharing.
I love this. I’ve donated water already. I encourage you guys to do the same. It’s easy, it’s free, it’s meaningful. And yes, it’s legit.
What is it?
For every ten minutes you don’t touch your phone, UNICEF Tap Project donors and sponsors can fund one day of clean water for a child in need. This is subject to the pledged limits from the generous donors and sponsors. That’s it.
How to participate?
Go to uniceftapproject.org ON YOUR MOBILE DEVICE.
You can start the challenge right away! As I type this, I haven’t touched my phone for 5 minutes and 14 seconds. Five more minutes and I’ve donated a glass of clean water.
Why water?
No one can survive without water, and yet 768 million people around the world do not have safe, clean water to drink. 2.5 billion people don’t have access to a proper toilet.

Blak Labs new Real Mums spots for Dumex
Danone Dumex has had a year of real ups and major downs. Amongst the highs, the successful launch on Mother’s Day of their community site www.heartknowsbest.com.sg
This site has helped reposition them as experts and partners in parenting and nutrition. The major down was the contaminated whey protein issue, courtesy of Fonterra in New Zealand. As a result of that issue, Danone Dumex took it upon themselves to institute a precautionary recall – damaging brand image and their sales.
So how to venture back into the market after that particular event? Apart from an excellent crisis recovery campaign, which Blak Labs helped with, our clients bravely decided to take a completely different tack.
Rather than featuring kids achieving their Mum’s scholastic desires, the team focused on the reality of being a Mum, being pregnant and their thoughts on Dumex.
We filmed two volunteer Dumex Mums – Thirlynn and Rei. They had no previous experience in front of the camera and we give them any lines to say. We simply wanted to create the conditions where their heartfelt emotions would come out on camera.
The shoot took place one Sunday. There were tears on set – as each Mum recalled special moments in their parenting journeys. And then there were tears again as the rough cuts were presented to management.
Take a look – the films are really quite special and will be supported by both social seeding and digital media buys across relevant sites. And don’t forget to check out the Dumex site.
Big thanks go to Two Oceans director Warren Klass, producers Say Chong and Shu Hui. For the music, thanks to Fuse – Colin Pereira, Jocelyn, Justin. And to the team at Blak Labs, Ken Tam (producer), Regina Lee (digital art director) and Hong Jun Teo (art director) for pulling it all together. Creative directors on the job: Nick Tan (art direction), Charlie Blower (copy).
The biggest thanks of all go to our lovely clients at Dumex, Nicole and Sharon. They took a leap of faith and fought for what they thought was best at every step – they deserve a big hand for their contributions to the final films. This is Thirlynn’s story. Rei’s to follow.

Blak Labs young bloods win NexGen Challenge at the Singapore Gong Show
Occasionally we win things at Blak Labs. Here’s some news from last night’s Creative Circle Awards. V Proud of our young guns!
A young team from Blak Labs emerged as champions of the NexGen Challenge at the 2013 Singapore Creative Circle Awards.
NexGen is a 48-hour team challenge for young agency creatives to submit a digital pitch for a real life client jointly presented by Hyper Island and Singapore 4As, sponsored by MediaCorp, Official Media & Strategic Partner for Young Professionals Programme.
Out of dozens of entries from the country’s top agencies, the winning idea by Royston Ang, Regina Lee and Elon Law of local creative collective, Blak Labs, struck a chord with judges for the clever use technology to connect with consumers.
“MediaCorp is turning 50 and over the years, TV consumption habits have changed dramatically,” says Royston Ang, Art Director. “Young Singaporeans are watching programmes on their tablets or phones. TV is no longer a social activity but a solitary one.”
“We used technology to bring people together around their favourite TV shows,” explains Regina Lee, Digital Designer. “We’re delighted that this union of psychology and technology made an impact on the jury,” added Elon Law, Copywriter.
The team will each attend a weeklong lab of their choice at Hyper Island Singapore, the world’s leading digital training institute.
According to Joji Jacob, Group ECD, DDB Singapore, this year’s Chairman of the Gong Show and NextGen jury member, “The international jury was unanimous in picking the three top contenders for the NexGen Challenge. The three teams presented their ideas to MediaCorp’s senior marketing team. The team from Blak Labs impressed with a great idea and a brilliant presentation.”
“Blak Labs is committed to fostering the next generation of creative talent in Singapore. We’re thrilled that our young guns have risen to the challenge and delivered a truly robust idea for a live brief against the clock,” said Charlie Blower, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Blak Labs.
